Frequently asked questions

Answers about links, files, privacy and responsible use.

Start here for the questions shared across ContentDown's live downloaders. Platform-specific pages contain additional guidance.

What platforms are live?

Instagram, TikTok and X are production integrations. ContentDown only lists a downloader as live after its backend and user workflow have been implemented and tested.

Do I need a social-media account?

ContentDown does not ask for your Instagram, TikTok, X or Reddit username, password or private login session. The live tools are designed for supported publicly accessible links.

Does public mean free to reuse?

No. Public availability is not a copyright licence. Only save, reuse or redistribute media where you have the necessary rights or permission.

Why can a valid-looking link fail?

The post may be private, deleted, restricted, regionally unavailable or delivered differently by the source platform. The URL can also identify a profile or share wrapper rather than a supported post.

Does ContentDown change the media quality?

The service aims to retrieve compatible media renditions exposed for the public post. It does not create artificial higher-resolution choices. Some workflows, such as supported Reddit native video, prepare compatible video and audio streams into a normal MP4 download.

Where are downloads saved?

Your browser controls the final save location. Desktop browsers commonly use Downloads; mobile browsers may show a save, download or share prompt.

Does ContentDown store a personal media library?

ContentDown is a retrieval utility, not a cloud media library. The product does not provide user accounts or a permanent personal download history.

Why does Reddit reject /s/ links?

The production Reddit integration currently requires the full post URL containing /comments/. The site catches /s/ links and explains how to obtain the canonical address.
