Start with rights, not technology
The ability to retrieve a file does not determine whether you may republish, sell, edit or redistribute it. Copyright, privacy, publicity rights, licences and platform terms can all matter depending on the media and your intended use.
Good reasons to save media
Examples can include keeping a copy of your own upload, saving material where the creator has given permission, preserving licensed resources, or other uses permitted by applicable law. ContentDown cannot determine your legal rights from a URL.
Respect creators
Where attribution is required or appropriate, preserve creator information and the source URL. Do not use a downloader to misrepresent authorship, evade access controls or redistribute material unlawfully.
A pre-download checklist
Identify the creator or rights holder; establish whether you own the media or have permission to use it; understand the purpose of the download; and preserve the source link where appropriate.
A public post does not grant a general right to reupload, commercialize or remove attribution. ContentDown cannot verify your legal permissions from a pasted URL.
Safer alternatives when permission is unclear
Use the platform’s built-in sharing or embedding tools when they meet your needs. For your own account, look for the platform’s official export or download features.
For commercial use, seek a licence or written permission and keep a record of it. If a rights holder needs to report a concern about ContentDown, use the contact and copyright pages.
